The Problem
When Sharon first came to Meridian, she had been living with a constant dull ache in her lower back for years.
More recently, following a fall, she began experiencing increasing pain in her left hip, groin and knee.
What initially seemed like a manageable issue gradually became a much bigger problem.
Over the following year, and particularly during the previous six to nine months, the pain became increasingly difficult to ignore.
Standing was uncomfortable.
Walking was painful.
Weight-bearing activities aggravated the symptoms.
Simple everyday movements became frustrating.
As a busy working mother, the pain wasn't just affecting her physically.
It was making it harder to do her job, look after her child and enjoy the activities that had always been an important part of family life.
The more limited she became, the more concerned she was about what the future might look like.
The Goal
Sharon wanted more than symptom relief.
She wanted her life back.
She wanted to move comfortably.
She wanted to enjoy time with her child without constantly thinking about pain.
She wanted to return to the activities she loved, including football, hockey, swimming and being active with her family.
Most importantly, she wanted confidence that her body could cope with the demands of everyday life again.
The Findings
During her assessment, it became clear that the hip and knee pain were only part of the story.
The previous fall had contributed to movement changes and compensation patterns that were affecting the way her body moved and loaded through the lower limb.
Years of lower back issues had added further complexity.
Rather than focusing on one painful area, we looked at the whole picture.
This allowed us to identify the key factors contributing to the problem and create a clear plan for moving forward.
The Plan
The initial phase focused on Recovery.
Reducing pain.
Improving movement.
Restoring confidence in weight-bearing activities.
As symptoms improved, attention shifted towards Resilience.
The focus became helping Sharon rebuild strength, improve movement quality and increase her ability to tolerate the demands of work, family life and sport.
Alongside treatment, she was given exercises and guidance to help her take an active role in her recovery.
The goal wasn't simply to feel better.
It was to become stronger and more capable than before.
The Outcome
As treatment progressed, Sharon began to notice consistent improvements.
Pain reduced.
Movement improved.
Walking became easier.
Everyday activities felt less restrictive.
The things that had once seemed increasingly difficult became manageable again.
Most importantly, she returned to doing the things she had been missing.
She returned to swimming.
She returned to football.
She returned to hockey.
And she was once again able to enjoy being active with her child without constantly worrying about pain.
Today, Sharon exercises independently and continues to build on the progress she has achieved.
Rather than requiring ongoing intensive treatment, she now attends periodic maintenance sessions to help support the active lifestyle she has worked hard to regain.
The Meridian Difference
Resilience isn't simply about recovering from pain.
It's about building a body that can support the life you want to live.
For Sharon, success wasn't measured by a scan result or a pain score.
It was measured by being able to work, parent, exercise and enjoy life without constantly being limited by her symptoms.
Because ultimately, resilience is about having the freedom to do what matters most.
